Welcome to Homeschooling Hobbits! I’m so glad that you’ve stopped by!

My name is Heather and I am mother to Ella and Anya, future stepmom to Liam, and fiance to Kurtis, whom I will marry in October of next year. We live near Houston, Texas where we spend our spare time attempting to develop gills so we can breathe in this humidity. I am an Austin, Texas native, and tend to say things like “ought to,” “reckon,” and most importantly: “y’all.”

Our family is rather eclectic. We are certainly a blended family. I suppose a better term might actually be “blending,” because the process doesn’t happen over night and there are so many pieces to our life that don’t quite mesh well, yet. It’s a work in progress!

This blog is something I’ve created to document my life as a mother, stepmother, fiancee, and home educator. Homeschooling Hobbits is called such because we are a liberal, nerdy, quirky, intelligent family, and we happen to love most -if not all- science fiction and fantasy in this house. I go back and forth between calling the children tiny humans and hobbits, and the way that they eat tells me they absolutely must be part Hobbit somehow. Our parenting style can best be described as “alternative,” because over the past nine years that I have been a mother, I have been told quite frequently that the way I parent my daughters is “odd.” I am completely okay with this, however, as all three children are witty, kind, loving, smart, and hardworking. They are like the best parts of all of the Hogwarts houses!

We are a quirky, lovable, homeschooling, night owl kind of family, and I’m so glad you’re here to share in our adventures. Be sure to find the links to the above right to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. There are also several means of contacting us, should you wish to.

Have a blessed day!
